Overview

Origin Pharma Packaging is a UK based 60 year established privately owned SME Pharmaceutical packaging business. They are leaders in innovation and design, global manufacturing, and consolidation of packaging supply chain.  They work with international pharmaceutical companies and healthcare agencies to create new solutions, reduce costs, and increase speed to market.

Through personal recommendation, the founder approached RMG to help them with the succession planning of their existing Managing Director.  The principal challenge for this project was the need to source someone with specialist wholesale pharma knowledge and who could easily transfer from a larger corporate into a smaller, family run business.

The challenge was also increased by the entrepreneurial “skin in the game” nature of the Managing Director assignment. They needed a person who was prepared to take full responsibility for the business and follow the lead of a highly successful incumbent Managing Director, who was prepared to handover the reigns but remain in the business.

When we think about innovation in recruitment processes, people tend to lean towards technical innovations, AI generated software to zero down on the right candidate quickly and effectively.

Innovation for this projects, lay much more in the manner with which the project was delivered, which was a highly proactive RMG-led process. Whilst there was a project team of four RMG consultants and researchers, Giles Hampson led the process in terms of candidate engagement, mapping the market and taking the time to travel throughout the UK over a period of just over month, to meet every potential candidate for the role in person. The brief yielded circa 100 names of potential talent, and Giles interviewed 20 people for this role personally. He also spent a total of five business days at the client’s site to run the interviews on their behalf. This part of the process is often overlooked, many recruitment providers play a more passive role once the client has begun their interviews. RMG recognised that this was the part of the process when clients need us most. Giles’ involvement, impartial and objective advice and contribution at the interview stage made a meaningful impact on the hiring decisions reached.

Technology did play its part, RMG worked with a third party HR partner to run and assess psychometric and behavioural profiling on each final shortlisted candidate, adding qualitative data and science to the final decision making.

 


Giles simply made the whole process of being recruited and joining a new business a really straight forward process. In what is a very daunting experience and change at times, Giles support was invaluable from start to finish, including keep in contact since onboarding. Providing guidance and counsel in both pre and post interview stages, negotiating a great deal for both employee and employer and keeping solid lines of communication as to where the process was. I would highly recommend and not hesitate to partner with again.
